JULY BOSFCPUG WORKFLOW MIXER DATE: Wednesday, July 14th TIMES: 7:00PM - 9:30PM (Doors open at 6:30PM) VENUE:
6:30PM: Network with other filmmakers as you mingle and swap stories and business cards!
7PM: The Tao of Color Grading
Open your mind and allow Colorist/Finisher Patrick Inhofer to share with you the insights, techniques, workflows, and tools he's acquired in a decade of color correcting with non-linear software. Learn the simple fundamental Truths that affect anyone trying to evaluate, improve, and add emotional impact to moving images. These Truths can be applied across different software packages - whether just a simple contrast filter or a complex dedicated color grading app, such as Apple's Color.
The Tao of Color Grading combines real-world grading examples with color theory and physical truths about the human vision system. Be enlightened about our need to work quickly to combat the aggressive manner in which our eyes lie to us. Renew your understanding of important concepts such as bit depth, lossy vs lossless codecs, and how to manage those codecs. We'll discuss how ProRes and devices like the AJA KiPro can help you maintain the quality of your images throughout the finishing pipeline.
You'll witness a clear demonstration of the benefits of working with a control surface. Using the affordable and powerful Euphonix MC Color Patrick will show how a control surface results in faster grading sessions while increasing the quality of the finished product.
Both Dean and Pat will show collaboration in action by having Pat pass off to Dean content edited in FCP and graded in Color for Dean to work with in SMOKE on Mac OS X!
8:30PM: INTERMISSION
Not enough time before the meeting to eat & mingle? Here's your chance. Enjoy food and beverage while you swap anecdotes and business cards with your peers. Delicious FOOD and beverages sponsored courtesy of AJA Video Systems.

Special 3D support by Ken Freed of JVC.
And joining Dean and Pat in the collaboration will be Boston editor Jacob Benjamin, who will cook up some graphics in Adobe Creative Suite 5 using After Effects to pass off to Dean for Dean to use as part of the finishing in Smoke on Mac OS X!
